Cai Rang Floating Market - Mekong Delta
Boat-at-Mekong-Delta-river

We did the 3 days 2 night cruise on the Mekong Cochinchine, from Phnom Penh to Saigon. We start from Chau Doc to Can Tho by car & get on board in Can Tho. Instead, we were offered to join another group on a visit to the floating markets before we boarded our boat – was interesting and very worthwhile addition to the trip.

Aboard the Le Cochinchine Mekong (us two + 3 other couple) we had a great time- our tour guide Tuan was fabulous and introduced us to some interesting countryside and information along the way. Side trips were really interesting – into small communities etc. Although we travelled with the other mekong boats, they took us to different stops and attractions so it didn’t feel ‘touristy’ and we got to go through quiet local areas which was a real highlight.

Room was excellent – comfortable and well appointed, clean. Only downside was a handheld shower and a slight sewerage smell often wafting through the bathroom.

Food was fantastic – every meal was varied, traditional, prepared fresh, good quality. Only recommendation would be to have more water provided or for sale – it was humid and we got dehydrated quickly and had no other way of purchasing water whilst on the boat. Only additional costs along the way were drinks.

For us, the 3 days was enough – although in retrospect i could have spent more time relaxing on the deck as we cruised along – very peaceful and scenic.

Trip back to saigon from Cai Be by private car was fine. Highly recommend this as a way to see some of the Mekong Tour.
